New Kids on the Block

This past week two babies were born into fashion royalty (and part rock royalty as well).  They will wear the finest attire and people like Michael Kors and Gwyneth Paltrow will show up at their birthday parties with arms full of gifts.

First up is Stella McCartney’s fourth child (and second girl), named Reiley, born Nov. 23.  The Stella McCartney kid’s line just came out, I’m sure all four of them will be covered in it head to toe.  I would wear it and I am almost 20.

And then over the weekend fashion editrix and Project Runway judge, Nina Garcia currently at Marie Claire, gave birth to another boy, named Alexander.

Looks like 10 year old Willow Smith will have some competition when the kids get a little older.  They both have a lot of fashion in their genes and will surely be watched to see how their style evolves over the year.

Ford Takes Paris

We all know that Tom Ford was the guest editor for the December issue of French Vogue, and now, finally, the pictures are out.  They are all very crisp and sexual, not a lot of romance or blurry, whimsical images for the legendary designer.  For the cover, he chose 15 year old, Daphne Groenveld, pillow lips and all, and you can see Ford lurking in the background.  I actually think the art direction and make up is beautiful, if not slightly creepy.

Of what I have seen of the other editorials, the picture with the children in the make up is my favorite so far.  Crystal Renn makes an appearance as well, though she is hardly recognizable under the bandages and fake plastic surgery.

I’m eager to see the rest of the magazine, once it comes to America I will have to scoop it up!

Beachy Holiday

Every year my family and I trek up to our Cape Cod house for Thanksgiving. So between the obligatory pie and turkey and starch we venture down to the beach. With me and my vintage Pendleton sweater we usually play football or have photo shoots (aunt and uncle are photographers). Besides we have to burn off breakfast before the 6 pies we will be having for dessert in a few hours.

Poly Pockets

As November comes to an end, I realized that I didn’t post the French Vogue cover for the month!

Natasha Poly landed the cover with amazing hair and make up, very nomad chic.  Models on covers are simply the best, and this is proof of it.

Book Me

Last day of school before Thanksgiving break, thought I should make it a more intellectual post.

Passed, (and later went into) this lovely book store on 10th Ave. down in Chelsea, around 21st St.

Book stores are one of my Top 3 favorite places to visit, and this one has definitely been added to the list.

Happy Reading!

One Ring to Rule Them All

I have turned into a ring person.  I have my share of vintage cocktail rings from huge gaudy stones to chunky gold ones.  But now I love thin, simple bands, mainly in gold.  I wear six rings everyday but seven is my lucky number, and I think I need to get a new one.  After scouring the internet, I have found my favorites.  Now the only question is, which is going to be lucky number seven?

The Glorious Costumes of The Talented Mr. Ripley

A few days ago I finally got around to watching The Talented Mr. Ripley a wildly interesting movie with an amazing cast including Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Cate Blanchett.  Set mainly in Italy with the hot sun and cool sea breeze, the costumes reflected the beachy 1950’s sentiment with a mix of high waisted bikinis and full skirts with tied oxfords.  The ladies definitely got the better costumes, though we did get to see Jude Law in his speedo…  The movie itself was very intriguing and intense at times, the softer costumes were a good balance to the mystery and secrets going on throughout.

My absolute favorite.

And the Award Goes to…

First and foremost, I would like to thank one of my fellow bloggers, http://deadstylish.wordpress.com/, for passing on the “Stylish Blogger Award” to me!  Her blog truly lovely, everyone should really check it out, now.

The rules of this award entail that I state five things about myself and then pass it on to the next bloggers.  So, here we go.

1.  I think I have a semi-obsessive personality.  I find that I say that I “love” and have a million “favorite” things all too often.  But, I think that when I find something that I like, I just need to share it with everyone.  Besides, there are some truly amazing things in this world, maybe I am just good at finding the best of them.

2.  Alber Elbaz, Phoebe Philo, and Phillip Lim are gods in my mind.  They should be placed upon Mount Olympus where they will sip nectar and eat ambrosia, and send down their gorgeous clothes to us mere mortals.  If I could only wear their designs for the rest of my life (and all my lives after that) I wouldm’t be happier.

3.  I love walking.  When you take the subway or a taxi you miss everything.  I am currently wearing a vintage Oscar de la Renta shirt that I found for $20 at a vintage store in Nolita which I never would have walked into had I not decided to walk the three miles home one day after interning.  Now I try to walk home as much as possible.  And because of this I have discovered countless stores, restaurants, and secret parks that I might never have seen.

4. Though it might be taboo in the fashion industry, I love food.  I have recently discovered pumpkin, and in my fridge is pumpkin ice cream, cream cheese, and butter.  And the other day I made pumpkin muffins.  Chelsea Market is one of my favorite places in NYC, as is Whole Foods and Eataly.  Shake Shack makes the best ice cream, Amy’s Bread wins with their almond brioche, and Pies and Thighs has amazing biscuits, fried chicken, and of course, pie.

5. I am a complete anglo- and franco-phile.  I still have dreams about Paris, and I went there over four years ago.  The countryside towns like Sarlat are just calling me back, asking me to stroll down their cobblestone streets once again.  As of now I am set up to study abroad in London next fall.  I have already started planning where to eat and shop.  How to run into Kate Moss, or Daphne Guinness (when she isn’t living in NYC).

So that is me in five questions.  Now it is your turn.

Busy Bee’s Knees

I feel terrible for not writing for a few days.  I have became a “busy bee”.  As in, for the rest of my life I will have virtually no free time between the hours of 8 am and 9 pm.  But I have come to terms with this, in fact it is a path I have chosen for myself.  However, I will not abandon this blog, and clearly I had some free time today if I was able to find all of these pictures of my new friends and make a collage out of them.  Maybe what I have learned is that I need to spend it more wisely…
