Just a Little Something I Worked On…

Last semester I had the absolute pleasure of interning for the stylist, Heathermary Jackson.  One of the shoots I was able to help with was UK ELLE, for which she is a contributing editor.  I obviously have a little spot in my heart for ELLE, I interned there a year ago and it was a truly eye opening experience.

The photo shoot was about longer hemlines, which I am such a fan of, the clothes were even more beautiful in person, and the model Gierde Dukauskaite was quite delightful.

The editorial is running in February 2011, and since some of you may not be able to get your hands on a copy, below is full shoot!

Let it Snow

Apparently it is supposed to snow again tomorrow, so here are some snowy pictures hoping for the best.

For that last big snow my roommate and I went ice skating in Bryant Park.  I hadn’t been ice skating in about seven years, but it was definitely worth the experience even if I was excruciatingly slow and paranoid everyone around me was out to make me fall.

Some Adventures in New York

One of the things I love best about New York is just walking the streets and exploring new places.  Yesterday, even though it was about 20 degrees outside I walked two miles to the grocery store (Trader Joes) just so that I could emerge myself in a part of the city I hadn’t been to before.  It was a complete eye opener.  For some unbeknownst reason I had never ventured ten blocks up from where I live, I guess I just assumed there was nothing really around there.  And apparently I was wrong.  Where I live, on the very West side of the island, there is basically nothing 10 blocks above or below, but once you cross that barrier there are wonders to be found.

These are pictures from some of my random walks like the one above.

The Beginning

And with the Golden Globes behind us, Award Show Season is officially underway.  I have always liked the Golden Globes because it mixes both television and movies which in my opinion makes for a less serious, fun environment.  The Academy Awards are of course my favorite, but it often seems a bit tense and everyone takes themselves quite seriously.  The Golden Globes are supposed to be a bit less dressy, and often more playful, but not to the extent of the Grammys.

Sunday night I was happily surprised by the clothes on the red carpet.  There was experimentation and some very sleek and sophisticated gowns.  There were only a handful of dresses that I really disliked, and a few lackluster ones, but other than that the show made me very excited to see what is planned for the Oscars!

My Absolute Favorites:

Michelle Williams in Valentino, channeling Twiggy.

Natalie Portman in Viktor & Rolf

Emma Stone in Calvin Klein

Julianne Moore in Lanvin

Hailee Steinfeld in Prabal Gurung

Claire Danes in Calvin Klein

Honorable Mentions:

January Jones in Versace

Scarlett Johanson in Elie Saab

Nicole Kidman in Prada

Leighton Meester in Burberry

Julianna Marguiles in Vintage YSL

Jayma Mayes in Alberta Ferretti

Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood

Anne Hathaway in Armani

Angelina Jolie in Versace

And the Bad:

Jennifer Love Hewitt in Romona Keveza

Julia Stiles in Romona Keveza

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

Christina Aguilera in Zuhair Murad

Milla Jovovich in Armani

The Aviator

This is one of the vintage dresses my Grandfather bought me for Christmas.  It is a very short brown leather dress with aviator like clasps up the front.  The second I saw it I fell in love, being that I have both a thing for leather and the 1960’s.  The white sweater tights are from Urban Outfitters and are super cozy, I have a feeling they will be featured quite a bit in my winter outings.

Oh the Holidays

I finally took the time this afternoon to upload all of my pictures from the past month or so.  Below you will find some of my favorite things in Provincetown, where I spend my summers and Thanksgivings, numerous pictures of food (typical), holiday ornaments, my New Year’s Eve outfit, and some other wonderfully random pictures I for some reason or another felt were worthwhile to post.

Model of the Month Club: Ginta Lapina

Twenty one year old Latvian, Ginta Lapina, is January’s Model of the Month.  With her ice blonde hair and stare to match, the wintery vibe she gives off is a perfect compliment to the weather rearing its wild head outside.

So take a look at the side bar and meet the girl on all of the runways and popping up in numerous magazines and advertisements.
