LFW Fall 2011

London Fashion Week has ended and we have seamlessly moved on to Milan.  Below are my edits from a few shows, clearly ladylike, tailored coats and cozy sweaters have definitely solidified their standing in Fall fashion.

My Time at Teen Vogue

This was the last photo shoot I worked on when I was interning with Heathermary Jackson.  The shoot was so much fun!  The model, Barbara Palvin, was absolutely adorable, she had so much energy was was absolutely beautiful.  She reminded me of a young Natalia Vodianova, but Hungarian.

I think it turned out really well, I absolutely loved the hair and make up and it was fun to watch them create the look.  The clothes are great because they are super accessible and easy to wear.  It is “Runway Our Way” so the clothes aren’t that expensive at all!

To Dye or Not to Dye

That is the question.

I feel this deep need to do something drastic with my hair.  Maybe not even drastic just something, anything.   My  hair is in the “growing out” stage, and I am too scared to cut it a la Carey Mulligan and too indecisive to pick a “normal” color to dye it.

Then I was re-inspired when I saw Eva Chen’s Tumblr (Beauty Director at Teen Vogue) and all of her beautiful images backstage at the A/W 2011 Fashion Week with the model’s colorful dye jobs.  Last Spring this was a trend as well and I want to do it then too, but I had just gotten my hair done at the Frederic Fekkai salon and I was nervous the dyes would not react well together.

My problem is that I don’t want it to look “punk” or like I am trying to be something I clearly am not, I just want it to be fun and chic!  I also can’t decide if it will look awkward because my hair isn’t very long, it’s about mid shoulder now.  Though, if on a whim, I do end up doing it one random night, I think a light lilac or baby pink would be best with my strawberry blond hair…though I do love the pistachio on the model below.

The one above of Dree Hemingway is my favorite.  Maybe I will just go all out and bleach my hair then dye random strands and the tips.

Cynthia Steffe Fashion Show

On Sunday, I had the amazing opportunity to go to the Cynthia Steffe fashion show at Lincoln Center.  This was my first time going to a show sponsored by Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.  And even though I have been to some pretty big shows (3.1 Phillip Lim, Y3 Yojhi Yamamoto, etc), I had never been to the “Tents” before.

It was definitely an experience.  There were photographers snapping pictures everywhere and famous faces on cell phones in the plaza of the arts center.  I saw Linda Fargo (Vice President of Visual Merchandising at Bergdorf Goodman) and Robert Verdi within my first few minutes there, followed by countless Reality TV “stars” (Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen) and models galore.

For Christmas, as I mentioned in a previous post, my Grandfather wanted to buy me vintage dresses because he knows how obsessed with them I am.  I had actually seen a black silk Yves Saint Laurent skirt and dress set about a year and a half ago at the vintage store I go to in Connecticut, Tova’s, and completely fell in love with it.  Do not ask me why but I didn’t buy it the first time I saw it but I actually thought about it frequently since then and wished I had.

Apparently it was fate because when I went in December, because it was there, and it fit, and it now hangs ceremoniously in my closet.  I consider it possibly the most beautiful item I own and I only wish I could wear it everyday.

I decided that Fashion Week would be the perfect time to introduce my vintage YSL to the world, and I chose to outfit myself like a modern day Audrey Hepburn circa Breakfast at Tiffanys.

I paired the dress with vintage YSL heels, sheer black tights, one of my roommate’s belts, my great-grandmothers jewelry and a rhinestone pin in my hair.

The show itself was actually really great!  The designer drew inspiration from modern royalty which could be seen in the jewel tones and incredible fur collars.  I really need one in every color, especially with the turn in the weather today.  The collection was very classic and looked like a beautiful Fall day, very warm and colorful with a bit of luxury mixed in.

It is surprisingly hard to take good pictures at a fashion show from the seats because of the lighting and pace of the models walk, so if you aren’t satisfied by my pictures go to style.com and check out their professional ones, the collection was definitely worth the second look.

Glitter Glitter Everywhere

Christian McCullough, MAC make up artist for the Vena Cava show yesterday, is my hero of the day.  The glitter eye makeup he painstakingly applied to every model is absolutely beautiful!  I wish I could do my eyes like that every night and have it be socially acceptable.

Or maybe the point is to do it anyway and I should be okay with playing with makeup that might be deemed “a bit much” by social standards.  The show was very 90’s with a slight grunge attitude, maybe with that “whatever” mindset I could pull it off.

If I am brave enough to even attempt to try this I will of course post pictures but for now I will leave to to the models of Vena Cava.

ps. The nail polish on the fingers is really cute. . . may have to try that one. . .

Comme to Me

I first spotted them at the Opening Ceremony in the Ace Hotel on Broadway and fell in love the instant I saw the multitude of vibrant colors and playful patterns inlayed on the soft leather.  Since then I have seen the infamous Comme des Garcons wallets everywhere, and I think, soon (maybe birthday?) it will be time to get one.

Below are some of my favorites, though I have a minor wallet fetish I rarely end up buying them, mainly just lusting over them for months, maybe it is time to take the plunge.
