And the Award Goes to…

First and foremost, I would like to thank one of my fellow bloggers, http://deadstylish.wordpress.com/, for passing on the “Stylish Blogger Award” to me!  Her blog truly lovely, everyone should really check it out, now.

The rules of this award entail that I state five things about myself and then pass it on to the next bloggers.  So, here we go.

1.  I think I have a semi-obsessive personality.  I find that I say that I “love” and have a million “favorite” things all too often.  But, I think that when I find something that I like, I just need to share it with everyone.  Besides, there are some truly amazing things in this world, maybe I am just good at finding the best of them.

2.  Alber Elbaz, Phoebe Philo, and Phillip Lim are gods in my mind.  They should be placed upon Mount Olympus where they will sip nectar and eat ambrosia, and send down their gorgeous clothes to us mere mortals.  If I could only wear their designs for the rest of my life (and all my lives after that) I wouldm’t be happier.

3.  I love walking.  When you take the subway or a taxi you miss everything.  I am currently wearing a vintage Oscar de la Renta shirt that I found for $20 at a vintage store in Nolita which I never would have walked into had I not decided to walk the three miles home one day after interning.  Now I try to walk home as much as possible.  And because of this I have discovered countless stores, restaurants, and secret parks that I might never have seen.

4. Though it might be taboo in the fashion industry, I love food.  I have recently discovered pumpkin, and in my fridge is pumpkin ice cream, cream cheese, and butter.  And the other day I made pumpkin muffins.  Chelsea Market is one of my favorite places in NYC, as is Whole Foods and Eataly.  Shake Shack makes the best ice cream, Amy’s Bread wins with their almond brioche, and Pies and Thighs has amazing biscuits, fried chicken, and of course, pie.

5. I am a complete anglo- and franco-phile.  I still have dreams about Paris, and I went there over four years ago.  The countryside towns like Sarlat are just calling me back, asking me to stroll down their cobblestone streets once again.  As of now I am set up to study abroad in London next fall.  I have already started planning where to eat and shop.  How to run into Kate Moss, or Daphne Guinness (when she isn’t living in NYC).

So that is me in five questions.  Now it is your turn.

“The Honorable Daphne Guinness”

I haven’t written about Daphne Guinness in a while, and it saddens me really.  I found this amazing editorial she did with photographer Steven Klein and stylist Patti Wilson for the couture supplement to Vogue Italia, September 2008.  I think we should have a couture supplement, actually, I wish my life had a couture supplement, but I have a feeling that is many years down the road.

I don’t really know why I have this affinity for Daphne Guinness, yes I admire her bravery (fashion wise) and her respect for beautiful clothes, but there must be something else.  In these images there is probably a clue.

Turkey a la Mode

Vogue Turkey is one of my newest obsessions.  Though it is a baby in the magazine world, only having been in existence since March 2010, I feel it is quickly rising and even surpassing other much older fashion magazines.  And with Karlie Kloss, Jessica Stam, and Victoria Beckham on the covers it has a very promising life ahead of it.

I think I am attracted to this bohemian, carefree lifestyle.  Where long billowy skirts and messy hair is the norm, and red is introduced into every ensemble.  Below are some of my favorite spreads from the magazine, I only hope that they will continue to be this visually stunning.

Party of the Century

Last night at Cipriani was WWD‘s 100th Anniversary party.  My invitation must have been lost in the mail.

There were amazing mini exhibitions set up all of the room and the cake was beyond impressive.

Here are some of my favorites that attended the star studded event.

Favorite Couple: Anna Wintour and Hamish Bowles

Second Favorite Couple: Coco Rocha and James Conran

Iman

Georgina Chapman

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

Gosh I love him, Alber Elbaz

Karen Elson singing Happy Birthday (note the newspaper cake)

Pixie Perfect

Though I usually prefer models on the cover of magazines, Emma Watson gracing December’s issue of British Vogue is completely fine with me and I kind of love it.

She looks like a modern Twiggy with her cropped hair and big doe eyes.  I won’t even mind paying $10 for this issue of the magazine, Emma Watson takes beautiful pictures and I have a feeling her editorial in the magazine will go above and beyond.

I feel like she, and Carey Mulligan on the cover of American Vogue, are still pressuring me into cutting my hair like theirs, but I don’t know if I could pull it off as amazingly as they do.

And here is Carey Mulligan’s cover story for October’s Vogue styled by Grace Coddington:

Daphne + FIT

Daphne Guinness and FIT have a healthy loving relationship, and this couldn’t make me happier. I went to the Japan Now exhibit currently at FIT, curated by the fabulous Valerie Steele, and was pleasantly surprised. The exhibit was impressive to say the least. Japanese fashion is not my favorite but I loved seeing the minimalistic avant garde design sense of Yojhi Yamamoto and Issey Miyake next to that of Japanese Lolitas and CosPlay characters. I thought the mix of these two vastly different styles was great.

But what I liked the most was this sign.
See that sentence at the bottom?  Yes, the last one that says, “Gift of Daphne Guinness”.  There were two of these but the guard stopped me before I could take a picture of the second one.

Daphne Guinness donates to FIT, to my school, to my institute of higher learning.

She is one of my fashion icons. Period.

And it gets even better than this.  The Fall 2011 exhibit at FIT is going to be Daphne Guinness’s couture collection.  I died a little when I heard this (in a good way).

I think it is so unbelievably generous of her to show her world renowned closet to the world.  One that she has been building for decades.  One filled with Alexander McQueen originals and Chanel and Vivienne Westwood…

Just one more reason to look forward to next Fall.

Paris Je T’aime-Day 6

Day 6 makes me wish I was in Paris even more than I usually do.  Chloe, Stella McCartney, and Yves Saint Laurent are some of my all time favorite brands.  I realize I say this with a lot of fashion houses, but this time I really mean it.  I do.

However, I’ll be honest, these collections were not my favorites the designers have done, it is like Meryl Streep being in a romantic comedy, or Karl Lagerfeld designing a line for Target.  The clothes are still absolutely amazing compared to everything else out there, but they aren’t up to the previous standards they have set in the past.
