I See Paris: Part 3 (L-Y)

Admittedly, this post is very late.  But better late than never right?  These beautiful clothes still need to be shown even though Paris Fashion Week ended a few weeks ago. They are beginning to slowly trickle in to magazine’s fashion closets.  Editors are using their best sweet talk to persuade PR companies to let them have these pieces first and assistants are dueling over who gets to feature the Louis Vuitton French maid outfits before the rest.  So below is the rest of the best if Paris Fashion Week.  It’s pretty crazy that there is only a bit more than five more months until it starts all over.

Oh, Lanvin and Alber Elbaz, how I love you so.  This season was a but subtler than the past but his gorgeous pinks and oranges rule the runway once again.  Now who do I contact for one of those amazing “Why yes I am a celebrity” hats?

The show in general was a bit kitschy for me but the huge pailette skirts and dresses are really amazing and made it all worth while.

Nina Ricci is consistently one of my favorites, season after season.  The ultra femininity without looking at all childlike or weak is very impressive.  Peter Copping is a design genius in my mind and is right up there with Mr. Elbaz in terms of women’s clothing.  The soft baby blue-gray color is too pretty, I want to dye all of my clothes that color.

Rochas designer Marco Zanini has this innate ability to take very vintage, retro shapes and fabrics and make them overtly modern and luxurious.  Who wouldn’t want that snow white furry dress for a blisteringly cold December day?

Stella loves her spots.  The Fall trend of polka dots is absolutely solidified with the Stella McCartney collection.  The designs are actually very wearable, even the see-through spotted jumpsuit.

I wouldn’t consider Valentino one of my favorite designers, but I thought the collection above is the best I have ever seen from the house and I would give a kidney (you only need one right?) to own the 6 looks above.  The designers at Valentino made a leather dress sweet and completely sin-free.  Impressive, no?

Fur and capes.  Enough said.

And the Award Goes to…

First and foremost, I would like to thank one of my fellow bloggers, http://deadstylish.wordpress.com/, for passing on the “Stylish Blogger Award” to me!  Her blog truly lovely, everyone should really check it out, now.

The rules of this award entail that I state five things about myself and then pass it on to the next bloggers.  So, here we go.

1.  I think I have a semi-obsessive personality.  I find that I say that I “love” and have a million “favorite” things all too often.  But, I think that when I find something that I like, I just need to share it with everyone.  Besides, there are some truly amazing things in this world, maybe I am just good at finding the best of them.

2.  Alber Elbaz, Phoebe Philo, and Phillip Lim are gods in my mind.  They should be placed upon Mount Olympus where they will sip nectar and eat ambrosia, and send down their gorgeous clothes to us mere mortals.  If I could only wear their designs for the rest of my life (and all my lives after that) I wouldm’t be happier.

3.  I love walking.  When you take the subway or a taxi you miss everything.  I am currently wearing a vintage Oscar de la Renta shirt that I found for $20 at a vintage store in Nolita which I never would have walked into had I not decided to walk the three miles home one day after interning.  Now I try to walk home as much as possible.  And because of this I have discovered countless stores, restaurants, and secret parks that I might never have seen.

4. Though it might be taboo in the fashion industry, I love food.  I have recently discovered pumpkin, and in my fridge is pumpkin ice cream, cream cheese, and butter.  And the other day I made pumpkin muffins.  Chelsea Market is one of my favorite places in NYC, as is Whole Foods and Eataly.  Shake Shack makes the best ice cream, Amy’s Bread wins with their almond brioche, and Pies and Thighs has amazing biscuits, fried chicken, and of course, pie.

5. I am a complete anglo- and franco-phile.  I still have dreams about Paris, and I went there over four years ago.  The countryside towns like Sarlat are just calling me back, asking me to stroll down their cobblestone streets once again.  As of now I am set up to study abroad in London next fall.  I have already started planning where to eat and shop.  How to run into Kate Moss, or Daphne Guinness (when she isn’t living in NYC).

So that is me in five questions.  Now it is your turn.

There were amazing mini exhibitions set up all of the room and the cake was beyond impressive.

I Heart

I know, I know, everyone is writing about Lanvin + H&M, but I have been with this story from the beginning, I would be doing a disservice to both Alber and myself if I did not pick out my future wardrobe from the collection.

So here it is, just a few more weeks and hopefully I will have made enough room in my tiny closet for all of these pieces. (There is a lot, bear with me)

I. Can’t. Wait.

I feel like a child weeks before Christmas (please don’t ask why my past few posts have been about Christmas when I am Jewish…).  I have that anxious, excited feeling and I am so ready to tear open those presents.  And in this case presents means H & M’s doors on November 20.

Yes, yes we know Alber Elbaz is a god to me, and Lanvin is Mount Olympus.  I suppose that makes H &  M my shopping mecca because the two are teaming up to create the most fabulous line, well, ever.

I wanted to save this post until some images of the clothes came out and today they were all over the internet.

First there was the video with Natasha Poly, with the clothes blurred out of course, but now we have an advertisement!  A printed image of four models in seriously chic black clothes.

I am counting down the days until November 20.  I am saving all my money and not shopping until then so that I can buy every single piece.

Paris Je T’aime-Day 3

Now we are up to October 1, PFW Day 3.  Yes this was the day that the ever talented Alber Elbaz sent his Lanvin collection down the runway.  It should really be a national holiday, a day dedicated to the most beautiful clothes.  Lanvin Lover’s day?  It has a nice ring to it.

I love clothes which means that I love a lot of designers.  However, I find that there are two or three that I know I will love every collection they put out.  And Alber Elbaz is at the top of that list.  His collection on Friday was absolutely gorgeous, dare I say, better than last seasons?  The colors from poppy to the pale mint green were almost as stunning as the draping and movement of the clothes.  If there is one thing Elbaz does best it is making women look incredible in his designs through the use of drapery.

The Christian Dior collection on the other hand was not nearly as good as last seasons.  John Galliano is one of the best, however, I do not always admire his design aesthetic and taste level.  His couture show in the summer inspired by flowers included some of the prettiest dresses I have ever seen, and the collection in the spring with the Victorian twist was gorgeous.  But I really did not like his collection this fall except for the finale evening gowns, which in my opinion are his strong suit.

Isabel Marant is the cool girl.  There is no way around it.  Her clothes are always put together in a way that you wouldn’t think makes sense but somehow it does.  Her sweaters this collection look so cozy I just want to run down to SoHo and buy all of them.

Vivienne Westwood knows how to make people talk.  Her clothing is never shy or polite, and this season is no different.  I can’t wait to see some model or celebrity try to pull of the heart blouses, and the first who does should really receive a round of applause.

Fashion Puppet Pals

They are absolutely everywhere. All over the internet, featured on the Vogue UK blog and Refinery 29.  On the manicured hands of Tim Gunn and potentially pinned to the jackets of everyone at Fashion Week.

These are, of course, the fashion finger puppets, of which I hope to be a collector.  They are adorable and quirky and actually match the likeness quite well.

Some of these puppets are sold individually, and others in sets like the ones created for the various Fashion Weeks.  There is a New York group, London, Milan, and Paris group.  Though they are a bit expensive, $120 for a set, they might be worth it when you have an insanely fashion knowledgeable child one day.
