The Beginning

And with the Golden Globes behind us, Award Show Season is officially underway.  I have always liked the Golden Globes because it mixes both television and movies which in my opinion makes for a less serious, fun environment.  The Academy Awards are of course my favorite, but it often seems a bit tense and everyone takes themselves quite seriously.  The Golden Globes are supposed to be a bit less dressy, and often more playful, but not to the extent of the Grammys.

Sunday night I was happily surprised by the clothes on the red carpet.  There was experimentation and some very sleek and sophisticated gowns.  There were only a handful of dresses that I really disliked, and a few lackluster ones, but other than that the show made me very excited to see what is planned for the Oscars!

My Absolute Favorites:

Michelle Williams in Valentino, channeling Twiggy.

Natalie Portman in Viktor & Rolf

Emma Stone in Calvin Klein

Julianne Moore in Lanvin

Hailee Steinfeld in Prabal Gurung

Claire Danes in Calvin Klein

Honorable Mentions:

January Jones in Versace

Scarlett Johanson in Elie Saab

Nicole Kidman in Prada

Leighton Meester in Burberry

Julianna Marguiles in Vintage YSL

Jayma Mayes in Alberta Ferretti

Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood

Anne Hathaway in Armani

Angelina Jolie in Versace

And the Bad:

Jennifer Love Hewitt in Romona Keveza

Julia Stiles in Romona Keveza

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

Christina Aguilera in Zuhair Murad

Milla Jovovich in Armani

Frathaway

I have a weird addiction to award shows, but really just the big ones.  The Academy Awards are my favorite, followed by the Tony’s in a close second place.  I actually didn’t think I could be more excited for the show on Feb. 27, until I found out who the host was.  Turns out it’s hosts.

Frathaway.

James Franco and Anne Hathaway are co-hosting the Oscars this year.  That means there will be a song and dance, amazing clothes, and some of Franco’s dry humor.  They are the personification of the new generation of Hollywood.  The two actors are completely okay with taking risks (playing gay characters, and getting nude) but they don’t draw a lot of attention to themselves, and try to stay out of rehab (and jail).

They also happen to have some pretty incredible magazine covers and spreads.
