Escape from New York

I’ve been in hiding.  I know that is really no excuse for the lack of posts the past few months but that’s the best one I’ve got.

This summer was absolutely amazing, to say the least.  I had the most fabulous internship and spent the summer months wiling the days away at photo shoots, late nights in Brooklyn and weekends in Cape Cod.  But a break was needed.  And so I fled.  Took a Virgin Airlines flight to London and decided to study abroad for a semester at the University of Westminster.

So here I am now, in London, and completely in love.

It took me a few days to get over culture shock.  Taxis, money, and pizza were among my biggest concerns but I am proud to say that I have moved on and adapted pretty well to this new culture.

Case in point, yesterday I was bored, so I dyed the ends of my hair lavender.

The area I am living in is the Lower East Side equivilant so granted that may have had an effect on my choice of color.

My weekends have taken me to Paris, Wales, Belgium, and Amsterdam (see photos below), I honestly couldn’t be luckier.

I miss New York (and obviously my friends and family) more than I can say.  Yesterday my mother sent me a care package consisting of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, candy corn, the New York Times Magazine (food & drink issue) and T Magazine (winter style issue).  I devoured the magazines, read them cover to cover, and a few articles twice.  I didn’t realize how much I had missed the style of writing  and journalism I had grown so accustomed to in America.

But enough about New York, I will be back in a few months, and I just know I will be longing for London, so for now enjoy the pictures from Wales, Brussles, and Amsterdam (London ones will be up shortly).

Russian Doll

Every time I come home I discover some fabulous vintage piece left by either my Grandmother or my Great-Grandmother, each equally fabulous in their own right.  Over Thanksgiving, I found some black leather Ferraegamo purses that had barely been touched and I now use one of them everyday.

But today I found a something that rivals it.  A hat.  For those of you who know me, as much as I would love to be, I am not a hat person.  It is very difficult for me to find one that I think fits my face and looks good on me.  Today while dressing all in black to head out into the vicious cold weather to go vintage shopping, I decided to try on my Grandmother’s Christian Dior mink hat.  It has been propped up on a shelf in my room like a museum piece for years now, the first time I tried it on it didn’t fit and I guess I never tried again after that.

I felt the urge to try it on again, praying it would at least fit, let alone look good.

I’m in love.

It is seriously so warm and cozy and chic I want to wear it every day.  To the beaches in Cape Cod and classrooms at FIT.

Beachy Holiday

Every year my family and I trek up to our Cape Cod house for Thanksgiving. So between the obligatory pie and turkey and starch we venture down to the beach. With me and my vintage Pendleton sweater we usually play football or have photo shoots (aunt and uncle are photographers). Besides we have to burn off breakfast before the 6 pies we will be having for dessert in a few hours.
