The crown of Teen TV Queen has just been passed, in a very public way, to Leighton Meester, Blair on Gossip Girl, for those of you without cable or an internet connection. It has just been announced that she will be the new face of Herbal Essences, taking over for Mischa Barton who played Marissa Cooper on the O.C. This is quite a slap in the face for Barton who used to be famous the world over for her beachy laid back California vibe. But this is no longer the case, after being arrested a few times for DUI and driving without a license and then failing to pay her landlord $7,000 rent she has been spiraling downhill and hasn’t acted in a decent show again. Enter, Meester playing Waldorf, known for her bows, headbands, and super preppy ensembles, the total package of an UES WASP.

Even the ads show a complete change since last January when Barton was named the face of the company. It is so cheap and gaudy, not something you want in hair care. The pink and black background with random heart and flower graphics is one of the worst I’ve seen. And her hair honestly doesn’t look that great.
Now Meester’s ad hasn’t been released yet, but their are pictures of her from the photo shoot. Her hair looks lovely and the single flower is a nice touch. I just wish she had her back straight, she is a bit slumped forward which is not very attractive. And since this is a cosmetics/hair ad I think she should look happy, a more sincere smile would do wonders for her. Just not quite as big as Barton’s toothy grin.
Sorry Mischa, it looks like the torch has been passed, and you are no longer the Queen of Teen TV.
