This past week two babies were born into fashion royalty (and part rock royalty as well). They will wear the finest attire and people like Michael Kors and Gwyneth Paltrow will show up at their birthday parties with arms full of gifts.
First up is Stella McCartney’s fourth child (and second girl), named Reiley, born Nov. 23. The Stella McCartney kid’s line just came out, I’m sure all four of them will be covered in it head to toe. I would wear it and I am almost 20.
And then over the weekend fashion editrix and Project Runway judge, Nina Garcia currently at Marie Claire, gave birth to another boy, named Alexander.
Looks like 10 year old Willow Smith will have some competition when the kids get a little older. They both have a lot of fashion in their genes and will surely be watched to see how their style evolves over the year.
A few days ago I finally got around to watching The Talented Mr. Ripley a wildly interesting movie with an amazing cast including Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Cate Blanchett. Set mainly in Italy with the hot sun and cool sea breeze, the costumes reflected the beachy 1950’s sentiment with a mix of high waisted bikinis and full skirts with tied oxfords. The ladies definitely got the better costumes, though we did get to see Jude Law in his speedo… The movie itself was very intriguing and intense at times, the softer costumes were a good balance to the mystery and secrets going on throughout.
My absolute favorite.
Large blockbuster movie premieres will start to pick up soon, with the summer months drawing near. The Iron Man 2 premiere is one of these such events. The two female stars, Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson both decided on white Armani, an interesting choice in my opinion. Paltrow has gotten a bit of bad press over her short-suit ensemble but I think it completely reflects her laid back/fashion forward lifestyle. Johansson’s short white dress is nice and very sculptural, a departure from her usual busty affairs, but we did see a lot of this look at the Oscar’s so I wish she picked something more original.
Personally, I think the best premiere, however, went to the ladies who attended the New York City Ballet Spring Gala last night. True, it could be because I have an obsession with Lanvin and everything Alber Elbaz does (same goes for Matthew Broderick), but I think what Portman and Parker picked out were more colorful for one, and honestly more beautiful. Portman is wearing a dress from Lanvin which fits her amazingly and is perfectly styled and Parker is wearing Elie Saab Haute Couture and a jacket by L’Wren Scott. It looks very vintage and classy, not a bit over the top.
