New Kids on the Block

This past week two babies were born into fashion royalty (and part rock royalty as well).  They will wear the finest attire and people like Michael Kors and Gwyneth Paltrow will show up at their birthday parties with arms full of gifts.

First up is Stella McCartney’s fourth child (and second girl), named Reiley, born Nov. 23.  The Stella McCartney kid’s line just came out, I’m sure all four of them will be covered in it head to toe.  I would wear it and I am almost 20.

And then over the weekend fashion editrix and Project Runway judge, Nina Garcia currently at Marie Claire, gave birth to another boy, named Alexander.

Looks like 10 year old Willow Smith will have some competition when the kids get a little older.  They both have a lot of fashion in their genes and will surely be watched to see how their style evolves over the year.

A Little Shopping Excursion

I’ve been told a few times I am a good shopper.  Like, really good.  The other day was a perfect example of this.

While exploring the many little towns of Connecticut I found a pair of Franco Sarto shoes on sale.  They were originally about $160 and they were on sale for $49.  They were also, regrettably, a size 8.  I am a 9.5 (ish-I can squeeze my feet into anything).  But these shoes were too good to give up so I slid them on carefully and walked around the store about a hundred times deciding which was more important, the well being of my feet or having great shoes.  I decided on the shoes.  When I brought them up to the counter to pay, they turned out to be $30.  It was meant to be.

Still elated from my shoe purchase, we head into another store, this time a designer consignment shop.  The first thing I see when I walk in the door is an amazing silk Giorgio Armani strapless top.  The original consignment price was $100, then marked down to $50 on top of which it was 40% off, leaving it to be $30.  The top was probably $650 to begin with.  Oh and the best part?  It fits perfectly.

Then I found a sheer blue and white silk stripped Michael Kors blouse, which I happened to be looking for, and a darling silk blue and pink polka dot dress with a Peter Pan collar and buttons up the back.  It is so Parisian chic!

And Now for the Real Awards Show…

Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards were held last night at Lincoln Center, hosted by the ever fabulous, Anna Wintour.

Some of the top winners were Marc Jacobs, recieving Womenswear Designer of the Year;  Rag & Bone took home Menswear Designer of the Year; Alexis Bittar, for Accessories Designer of the Year; and Michael Kors receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award.

As for the Swarovski awards which pays homage to emerging designers, Jason Wu received the Womenswear award, Richard Chai took home the Menswear award, and the Accessories award went to Alexander Wang.  These three winners will receive generous amounts of money from Swarovski to help their growing brands.

Sarah Jessica Parker was given the somber task of presenting the Board of Directors’ Special Tribute Award in honor of Alexander McQueen.  After she spoke, the stage filled with models presenting McQueen’s final collection to the crowd, the first time it has been seen in its entirety since March in Paris.

Also awarded last night was Christopher Bailey, head designer of Burberry, who received the International Award; Iman was given the Fashion Icon award; Eugenia Sheppard Award for Journalism went to Kim Hastreiter; and the Eleanor Lambert Award was given to Tonne Goodman, Fashion Director of Vogue, and one of my idols.

Day.6.

Whatever tickles your fancy

I am going to use this to continue my undying love and appreciation for the MET Costume Institute Gala last night.

Some happy surprises:

Bee Shaffer, Anna Wintour’s daughter, in Balenciaga.

Bee always has the ability to look perfectly elegant, and when I saw that she was wearing Balenciaga I thought it would be from the recent F/W 2010 line, but thankfully (I was not a fan of the entire collection) it was this incredibly embroidered piece.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

I thought JLo’s dress was one of the most gorgeous of the night, I was so surprised that a. she didn’t pick a big name designer and b. she didn’t show off her, assets.  I think this is quite possibly the most beautiful she has ever looked and I am very proud of her.

Nightmare on Central Park West:

I would hate to be the publicists and/or stylists for Jones and Bigelow right now.  Their dresses are too similar, it’s that simple. They are both short YSL dresses in the same shade of fuschia with a black design on top and a skinny black belt at the waist with black heels.  I really want to know how this happened and why YSL didn’t inform the women that they basically had the same dress.

January Jones in YSL.
Kathryn Bigelow in YSL.

Liv Tyler, Stella McCartney, Kate Hudson all in Stella McCartney

The happy family.  I love how they always show up together, I wish Stella wanted to dress me for the event.  I love all of the dresses, they all look amazing.

The end.

Pants:

I have never seen so many pants/jumpsuits on a red carpet before, but each of these women were able to make them look oh so feminine.

Alexa Chung in Phillip Lim.

Alexa looks her perfectly preppy self in this adorable Phillip Lim suit with bow tie and cropped pants.  The lipstick gives it just enough girliness without being too tacky.

Tina Fey in YSL.

I am so so glad Tina Fey wore this instead of having a gown disaster, this fits her personality much better.

Ralph and Ricky Lauren in Ralph Lauren.

A surprising pant ensemble by Ralph Lauren is worn on his wife, Ricky.  I like this female version of the tux, and it fits her life a Ralph Lauren leather glove.

Chanel Iman in Michael Kors.

This Michael Kors onesie is to die for, cute but still elegant yet sexy enough for the MET.
