A Fashionable Hotel

Apparently I am not the only one with fashion on my mind.  Wyndham Hotel group has just opened a new hotel on 26th St. and 7th ave. called Fashion 26.  Being just blocks from both the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Garment Center, the location is absolutely perfect.

The lobby is covered in art and photography and the front desk is reminiscent of an old fabric cutting table.  The New York Times describes the uniforms as, “Kangol hats and gray Nehru jackets, and desk clerks are in charcoal gray pinstripe suits over bright shirts.”  Kangol hats went out of style about five or six years ago, about the times LL Cool J decided to switch to “acting” and the Nehru jackets went out even before that, but the gray pinstripe with bright shirts underneath sounds chic enough.

Each of the 280 rooms are tailor made and unique.  There is even a chance to upgrade to the “Best Dressed Guest” suite, but I’m sure there will be some pretty stiff competition being in the Garment District.

A nice, unique touch that the hotel created is a friendly competition between FIT students. The website states, “Style Through My Eyes:Fashion 26 – A Wyndham Hotel has created “Style Through My Eyes,” a photography competition for students currently enrolled in Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T). Students will have the opportunity to submit their best work of and around the five boroughs of New York City. Winning photographs will be displayed at the hotel with recognition to each photographer, rotating with each semester’s winning photographs.”
