And the Award Goes to…

First and foremost, I would like to thank one of my fellow bloggers, http://deadstylish.wordpress.com/, for passing on the “Stylish Blogger Award” to me!  Her blog truly lovely, everyone should really check it out, now.

The rules of this award entail that I state five things about myself and then pass it on to the next bloggers.  So, here we go.

1.  I think I have a semi-obsessive personality.  I find that I say that I “love” and have a million “favorite” things all too often.  But, I think that when I find something that I like, I just need to share it with everyone.  Besides, there are some truly amazing things in this world, maybe I am just good at finding the best of them.

2.  Alber Elbaz, Phoebe Philo, and Phillip Lim are gods in my mind.  They should be placed upon Mount Olympus where they will sip nectar and eat ambrosia, and send down their gorgeous clothes to us mere mortals.  If I could only wear their designs for the rest of my life (and all my lives after that) I wouldm’t be happier.

3.  I love walking.  When you take the subway or a taxi you miss everything.  I am currently wearing a vintage Oscar de la Renta shirt that I found for $20 at a vintage store in Nolita which I never would have walked into had I not decided to walk the three miles home one day after interning.  Now I try to walk home as much as possible.  And because of this I have discovered countless stores, restaurants, and secret parks that I might never have seen.

4. Though it might be taboo in the fashion industry, I love food.  I have recently discovered pumpkin, and in my fridge is pumpkin ice cream, cream cheese, and butter.  And the other day I made pumpkin muffins.  Chelsea Market is one of my favorite places in NYC, as is Whole Foods and Eataly.  Shake Shack makes the best ice cream, Amy’s Bread wins with their almond brioche, and Pies and Thighs has amazing biscuits, fried chicken, and of course, pie.

5. I am a complete anglo- and franco-phile.  I still have dreams about Paris, and I went there over four years ago.  The countryside towns like Sarlat are just calling me back, asking me to stroll down their cobblestone streets once again.  As of now I am set up to study abroad in London next fall.  I have already started planning where to eat and shop.  How to run into Kate Moss, or Daphne Guinness (when she isn’t living in NYC).

So that is me in five questions.  Now it is your turn.

A Peek Inside My Dream Summer Wardrobe

I was having a lot of difficulty getting dressed this morning.  It happens to me every so often and really throws me off the rest of the day.  I do not mean to say that I am overly vain, just slightly obsessive with how I present myself to the world.

As much as I love summer clothes, they are rather limiting because I hate being hot.  I would always rather be shivering in an igloo than feeling sweaty and sticky in unbearable heat with no where to go.

And this is why I wish that the entirety of Phillip Lim’s 3.1 Summer 2010 collection would just waltz into my closet and make itself at home.  The fabrics he used breathe, they are airy and light, the neutral colors do not absorb any light (=added heat) and they are simply beautiful.  Not one of the pieces looks like it would overwhelm me and my sensitivity to the ever-changing weather of New England.

Phillip Lim is definitely one of my favorite designers, he manages to take classic American designs and make them so chic it hurts.  The models look happy in his clothing, not moody and sullen, which, personally, I prefer.

So Mr. Lim, if you are reading this, please send just one item, anything would be absolutely perfect.

Here is the look book of my dreams:

Day.6.

Whatever tickles your fancy

I am going to use this to continue my undying love and appreciation for the MET Costume Institute Gala last night.

Some happy surprises:

Bee Shaffer, Anna Wintour’s daughter, in Balenciaga.

Bee always has the ability to look perfectly elegant, and when I saw that she was wearing Balenciaga I thought it would be from the recent F/W 2010 line, but thankfully (I was not a fan of the entire collection) it was this incredibly embroidered piece.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

I thought JLo’s dress was one of the most gorgeous of the night, I was so surprised that a. she didn’t pick a big name designer and b. she didn’t show off her, assets.  I think this is quite possibly the most beautiful she has ever looked and I am very proud of her.

Nightmare on Central Park West:

I would hate to be the publicists and/or stylists for Jones and Bigelow right now.  Their dresses are too similar, it’s that simple. They are both short YSL dresses in the same shade of fuschia with a black design on top and a skinny black belt at the waist with black heels.  I really want to know how this happened and why YSL didn’t inform the women that they basically had the same dress.

January Jones in YSL.
Kathryn Bigelow in YSL.

Liv Tyler, Stella McCartney, Kate Hudson all in Stella McCartney

The happy family.  I love how they always show up together, I wish Stella wanted to dress me for the event.  I love all of the dresses, they all look amazing.

The end.

Pants:

I have never seen so many pants/jumpsuits on a red carpet before, but each of these women were able to make them look oh so feminine.

Alexa Chung in Phillip Lim.

Alexa looks her perfectly preppy self in this adorable Phillip Lim suit with bow tie and cropped pants.  The lipstick gives it just enough girliness without being too tacky.

Tina Fey in YSL.

I am so so glad Tina Fey wore this instead of having a gown disaster, this fits her personality much better.

Ralph and Ricky Lauren in Ralph Lauren.

A surprising pant ensemble by Ralph Lauren is worn on his wife, Ricky.  I like this female version of the tux, and it fits her life a Ralph Lauren leather glove.

Chanel Iman in Michael Kors.

This Michael Kors onesie is to die for, cute but still elegant yet sexy enough for the MET.
