I See Paris: Part 3 (L-Y)

Admittedly, this post is very late.  But better late than never right?  These beautiful clothes still need to be shown even though Paris Fashion Week ended a few weeks ago. They are beginning to slowly trickle in to magazine’s fashion closets.  Editors are using their best sweet talk to persuade PR companies to let them have these pieces first and assistants are dueling over who gets to feature the Louis Vuitton French maid outfits before the rest.  So below is the rest of the best if Paris Fashion Week.  It’s pretty crazy that there is only a bit more than five more months until it starts all over.

Oh, Lanvin and Alber Elbaz, how I love you so.  This season was a but subtler than the past but his gorgeous pinks and oranges rule the runway once again.  Now who do I contact for one of those amazing “Why yes I am a celebrity” hats?

The show in general was a bit kitschy for me but the huge pailette skirts and dresses are really amazing and made it all worth while.

Nina Ricci is consistently one of my favorites, season after season.  The ultra femininity without looking at all childlike or weak is very impressive.  Peter Copping is a design genius in my mind and is right up there with Mr. Elbaz in terms of women’s clothing.  The soft baby blue-gray color is too pretty, I want to dye all of my clothes that color.

Rochas designer Marco Zanini has this innate ability to take very vintage, retro shapes and fabrics and make them overtly modern and luxurious.  Who wouldn’t want that snow white furry dress for a blisteringly cold December day?

Stella loves her spots.  The Fall trend of polka dots is absolutely solidified with the Stella McCartney collection.  The designs are actually very wearable, even the see-through spotted jumpsuit.

I wouldn’t consider Valentino one of my favorite designers, but I thought the collection above is the best I have ever seen from the house and I would give a kidney (you only need one right?) to own the 6 looks above.  The designers at Valentino made a leather dress sweet and completely sin-free.  Impressive, no?

Fur and capes.  Enough said.

New Kids on the Block

This past week two babies were born into fashion royalty (and part rock royalty as well).  They will wear the finest attire and people like Michael Kors and Gwyneth Paltrow will show up at their birthday parties with arms full of gifts.

First up is Stella McCartney’s fourth child (and second girl), named Reiley, born Nov. 23.  The Stella McCartney kid’s line just came out, I’m sure all four of them will be covered in it head to toe.  I would wear it and I am almost 20.

And then over the weekend fashion editrix and Project Runway judge, Nina Garcia currently at Marie Claire, gave birth to another boy, named Alexander.

Looks like 10 year old Willow Smith will have some competition when the kids get a little older.  They both have a lot of fashion in their genes and will surely be watched to see how their style evolves over the year.

Stella McCartney Window

I took these pictures about a month ago in the Meatpacking district.  At first I just thought the Moschino windows were funny, which is why I began taking pictures, but then I got down to Alexander McQueen and was literally awe struck.  Three dresses from his final collection were standing before me.  So obviously I went inside and it took everything I had not to touch the dresses.  Seriously, everything.

I went back a few days later and there were different dresses in the window, it must have been a rotating collection.

The shadow on the Stella McCartney window kind of ruins it, but I love the graphic from the ad with Natalia Vodianova.

Paris Je T’aime-Day 6

Day 6 makes me wish I was in Paris even more than I usually do.  Chloe, Stella McCartney, and Yves Saint Laurent are some of my all time favorite brands.  I realize I say this with a lot of fashion houses, but this time I really mean it.  I do.

However, I’ll be honest, these collections were not my favorites the designers have done, it is like Meryl Streep being in a romantic comedy, or Karl Lagerfeld designing a line for Target.  The clothes are still absolutely amazing compared to everything else out there, but they aren’t up to the previous standards they have set in the past.

Happy Father’s Day!

Apparently it is very hard to find cute father/daughter pictures in Vogue.  I suppose I should have realized this would be a difficult task but I thought it would be worth a shot.  And as I assumed, there were none.  But I had to honor the day in at least a semi-fashiony way, so then I decided to move on to fashion father/daughter pictures, which happened to be much easier.

So in honor of Father’s Day here are some of fashion’s most famous father daughter pairs.

Ralph and Dylan Lauren

Mick and Georgia May Jagger

Paul and Stella McCartney

Tommy and Ally Hilfiger

Liv and Steven Tyler

Day.6.

Whatever tickles your fancy

I am going to use this to continue my undying love and appreciation for the MET Costume Institute Gala last night.

Some happy surprises:

Bee Shaffer, Anna Wintour’s daughter, in Balenciaga.

Bee always has the ability to look perfectly elegant, and when I saw that she was wearing Balenciaga I thought it would be from the recent F/W 2010 line, but thankfully (I was not a fan of the entire collection) it was this incredibly embroidered piece.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

I thought JLo’s dress was one of the most gorgeous of the night, I was so surprised that a. she didn’t pick a big name designer and b. she didn’t show off her, assets.  I think this is quite possibly the most beautiful she has ever looked and I am very proud of her.

Nightmare on Central Park West:

I would hate to be the publicists and/or stylists for Jones and Bigelow right now.  Their dresses are too similar, it’s that simple. They are both short YSL dresses in the same shade of fuschia with a black design on top and a skinny black belt at the waist with black heels.  I really want to know how this happened and why YSL didn’t inform the women that they basically had the same dress.

January Jones in YSL.
Kathryn Bigelow in YSL.

Liv Tyler, Stella McCartney, Kate Hudson all in Stella McCartney

The happy family.  I love how they always show up together, I wish Stella wanted to dress me for the event.  I love all of the dresses, they all look amazing.

The end.

Pants:

I have never seen so many pants/jumpsuits on a red carpet before, but each of these women were able to make them look oh so feminine.

Alexa Chung in Phillip Lim.

Alexa looks her perfectly preppy self in this adorable Phillip Lim suit with bow tie and cropped pants.  The lipstick gives it just enough girliness without being too tacky.

Tina Fey in YSL.

I am so so glad Tina Fey wore this instead of having a gown disaster, this fits her personality much better.

Ralph and Ricky Lauren in Ralph Lauren.

A surprising pant ensemble by Ralph Lauren is worn on his wife, Ricky.  I like this female version of the tux, and it fits her life a Ralph Lauren leather glove.

Chanel Iman in Michael Kors.

This Michael Kors onesie is to die for, cute but still elegant yet sexy enough for the MET.

The Single Most Fabulous Night of the Year

I have been waiting quite a while to write this post, though I do wish I was covering the event from inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Yes, last night was the MET Costume Institute Gala and I cannot even express how much I wish I was there.  It’s not even the vastness of celebrities that make me yearn to go, it is the clothes.  The custom designed gowns, the unique pieces that will only be seen once, the extravagance of the couture.  That is why I want to go, but Joshua Jackson doesn’t hurt either.

Let’s start with the color trends:

Metallics

From left to right; Claire Danes in Burberry, Anne Hathaway in Valentino, Brooke Shields in Michael Kors.  I like Danes and Hathaway’s the best, I think it fits them beautifully and they are both interesting, elegant pieces.

From left to right; Nicole Richie in Marc Jacobs, Donatella Versace in her own design, Anna Wintour in couture Chanel.  While I am not a huge Richie fan, I love the Marc Jacobs dress on her and the Chanel is perfect for Wintour and her slim frame.

Erin Featherston in her own design.

Marion Cotillard in Dior couture.

Sarah Jessica Parker in Halston.

Color:

Christina Hendricks in L'Wren Scott

Naomi Watts in Stella McCartney

Rachel Zoe in Marc Jacobs.

Rachel Weisz in Oscar de la Renta.

I will have more pictures up later in the day.  Including the worst of the evening.
